Annealing
Cincinnati Steel Treating offers annealing heat treatments for a great variety of metal products including cast iron, welded fabrications, steel components, and non-ferrous metal parts including aluminum and copper. CST can perform annealing operations within multiple quality systems including ISO 14001, IATF 1649, and ITAR.
Cincinnati Steel Treating provides quality annealing services from our well-equipped metal treating facility in S.W. Ohio. Annealing, of forgings, castings and weldments is accomplished in one of our three car bottom furnaces.
Annealing is used to soften or alter the grain structure for improved formability and machinability.
We run parts weighing up to 10,000 pounds and as large as 8 ft. wide x 6 ft. tall x 17 ft. long at temperatures from 900°F to 1850°F. A wide selection of furnaces is also available for running special cycles, including processing under protective atmospheres.
Whether annealing aluminum, steel or annealing metal parts made from a variety of alloys, CST offers excellent value and exceptional annealing services.

Annealing versus other Heat Treatments
Annealing is often confused with stress relieving and tempering. All three heat treatments serve on a very basic level to soften a part, increase its ductility/toughness, and decrease its residual stress. The concept that distinguishes annealing from the other heat treatments is that the goal of annealing is to soften a metal specifically for subsequent manufacturing processes such as cold forming or machining.
Annealing Steel
Cincinnati Steel Treating (CST) offers annealing services to machine shops, fabricators, and gear manufacturers to assist them in improving the machinability and formability of their steel parts. Annealing in steel is a heat treatment that involves heating the part to a temperature range between 1150°F
Annealing Aluminum
Cincinnati Steel Treating (CST) offers annealing cycles to anneal any aluminum grades to a specified hardness or level of ductility. These heating cycles include those that produce full annealing to the -O condition in one of our certified furnaces.
Annealing Copper
Cincinnati Steel Treating (CST) offers annealing services for multiple copper alloys. Annealing is performed on copper for the same reasons that it is performed on steel and aluminum, to increase softness, ductility, and toughness. This aids in the machinability and formability of copper alloy parts.
